Since the BLS is part of the College of Arts and Sciences, BLS students must follow College policies. College policies and procedures are found in the College Bulletin and on the Office of Undergraduate Academic Policies and Procedures. Your BLS academic advisor and the College Recorder’s Office are generally the best places to start for assistance in understanding these.
Academic Policies
Special BLS Policies
There are a few policies that apply only to BLS students. They are:
- Extended-X policy. The BLS program is the only degree program in the College that honors the University’s Extended-X policy, which allows students to remove certain repeated courses from their GPA. The full text of the policy is available on the Enrollment and Student Academic Information Bulletin. We strongly encourage to you to discuss the use of the policy with your academic advisor before repeating a course. Grades denoted with an “X” are not counted in the BLS GPA.
- Academic Forgiveness policy. If you are interested in learning more, please contact your BLS academic advisor.
- Changing my BLS degree to another College degree or major. In addition to having a GPA of at least 2.000 in the intended major, BLS students must have a College GPA of at least 2.000. All grades earned in degree-applicable courses count when determining your GPA.
